CHAPTER 5
Irvington Walk in the Park
and Farmers Market, Aug. 8, 2008

I returned to Ellenberger Park in Irvington for the 2008 rendition of the annual Walk in the Park. Things were much the same as I had remembered in 2006 -- lots of vendors, musical acts, activities for children and the monthly Farmers Market.

As best as I can determine, the Irvington Walk in the Park held three years later, in 2011, also was the last such event. And not long after that, the Irvington Guild of Artists, who helped produce the annual fair, ceased to exist.

The Guild still has a blog website that can be accessed, but the last post was in 2012. One of the last posts was a blurb mentioning that the Guild would have a booth at the annual Irvington Halloween Festival that year.

Traveler's Dream, featuring founding members Michael Lewis and Denise Heasty, performed in a casual lawn setup, elevating the intimacy level of the performance.

The combo use rich harmonies and a wide variety of traditional and modern instruments to unfurl spirited songs from the Celtic lands and French Canada, hard-driving Irish jigs and reels, sea shanties and traditional American songs. Traveler's Dream is featured in the first three photos below.

Coming tomorrow: Chapter 6, Irvington Neighborhood, Indianapolis
