Monday turned out to be that day.
But along the way, I also got pictures of some cattle and horses on properties located along the way, as well as construction "status" pictures of a new leg of the I-540 toll expressway, which will surround Raleigh when it is finished, whenever that is. The photos were taken from the Fanny Brown Road overpass looking in both directions. Fanny Brown will not get exit ramps; those will go on the next major thoroughfares, U.S. 401 and Old Stage Road, west and east of Fanny Brown, respectively.
Two legs of the expressway are already open, and both are on the north side of the city. The portion on the northeast is free; the segment on the northwest carries a toll. The southwest section under construction now also will carry a toll, as will the final leg on the southeast side.
Above and below: This warning sign -- and the ones below on the opposite sides of the road -- made me aware of something I hadn't known ... that there is a pipeline going through on this right of way.
One of the cattle (above) and horses (below) on the return trip. The group of horses in the second photo below were much farther away.
