It was all about the pretty ...

The expression you see in the headline on this post is a phrase I hear often from Lee Ann when she discusses her sundry garden tending or flower planting and-or purchasing decisions. Maybe you know someone who uses that expression, too.

While at Yates Mill Pond Park for my walk yesterday on Election Day (for the record, I'd voted a week and a half on the second day of early voting here in North Carolina), the autumn colors were out in their boldest so far this season. So, I spent some time on the main pedestrian boardwalk before launching my walk ... and, at the end, on the home stretch portion on the Millpond Trail, which is just behind the line of trees you see in the lead-off photo and first three photos below, capturing images of the pretty.

I am now using a monochrome conversion of one of the pictures as my blog header photo, as you probably noticed.

It is my impression (I did not do any research to back this up) that red is the least populous color of changing leaves in autumn, so I tend to be drawn to red-leaf solitaries and groupings. Hence, the explanation for what you see in this post.

The rest of the best is below this sentence.
